“As spring arrives Chicago’s construction boom is shifting into high gear as the dozens of tower cranes swing into action. Downtown continues to be an ever-thickening forest of high-rises while outlying neighborhoods are seeing their own taller projects take root.

New apartments continue to be the primary driving force behind the Windy City’s vertical growth as the downtown prepares to deliver a record 4,400 units in 2019. Office towers, hotels, condominiums, and educational buildings are also well represented.

While a number of large developments including the South Loop’s Essex on the Park, Fulton Market’s Hoxton Hotel, and the twin towers of the Lincoln Common development were recently completed and dropped off the list, there are notable newcomers such as the 969-foot-tall One Chicago Square project.
